Electra, the French charging champion, joins the French Tech Next40
Feb 20, 2023
Electra, the operator of fast-charging stations for electric vehicles, is continuing its ascent and is now a major player in the energy transition. The company has joined the French Tech Next40, a government support programme dedicated to the most promising French scale-ups and future European heavyweights. According to French Tech, this year's Next40 class is the most selective since its creation. It is also, for the first time, the one in which all the winners are committed to the ecological transition, gender equality and inclusion.
This is a recognition for Electra, which after closing 2022 with several records, will accelerate in Europe this year.
Electra is expanding its network very quickly with 170 stations planned to be opened by 2023. More than 1,000 fast charging points will be available by the end of the year. Electra's objective is to facilitate the transition to electric vehicles in order to reduce emissions, in a context where the transport sector is currently the leading CO2 emitting sector in France.
Electra has experienced strong growth over the past two years, having won numerous tenders to equip car parks for Altarea Commerce, Indigo, AccorInvest, Louvre Hôtel Group, Primonial REIM France, Delhaize, etc. The company now has 110 high-level employees and 30 more are arriving, with a single objective: to offer the simplest recharging experience in the world. After Belgium and Italy, Electra will soon arrive in Switzerland, Austria and Spain.
To support this acceleration, the company, which has raised €175 million over the past two years, has secured various other financing lines for a total of €400 million to be invested in the Electra network.
Particularly demanding selection conditions
The French Tech Next40 brings together the 40 most successful start-ups in the ecosystem to reward their status as tomorrow's leaders in their sector. To be included, you had to be one of the 26 unlisted French unicorns, or have raised at least €100 million between 2020 and 2022.
"We are proud to have been selected to join the French Tech Next40. This is a great recognition of the hard work of a remarkable team and of French know-how in the charging infrastructure sector. We are only at the beginning but we will continue our efforts and the industrialisation of our processes in order to accelerate the electrification of the European car fleet, at a time when only 13% of vehicles are electric", says Aurélien de Meaux, CEO of Electra.
